Suerte Tequila is made at Tequilera Simbolo, NOM 1530, in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco, where the red clay soil and higher elevation produce larger, sweeter agave than the Tequila Valley floor. The brand's label art was drawn by tattoo artist Adam Jackson, but the tequila underneath is made the slow way: 100% blue Weber agave is cooked in brick ovens, then crushed with a stone tahona wheel rather than a roller mill, which keeps more of the fiber in the ferment and gives the spirit its earthy weight, before double distillation in stainless steel pot stills. The Reposado rests seven months in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, well past the two-month legal minimum, and is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof). Difford's Guide tasted it as clear, very pale straw, with a dusty, pungent nose of wet cement, vanilla, white pepper and nutmeg, a palate of slightly sweet roasted agave, cracked red peppercorn, spicy dry oak and butterscotch, and a dry, gently spiced finish of lingering agave and faintly smoky oak. The tahona character makes it a reposado that stands up in a margarita and still works neat.
